Scheduling & Optimization
Custom scheduling, routing, and capacity systems for operations where timing, inventory, and available space all have to line up at once.
The problem
The Schedule Is Usually the Constraint
Most operations do not have a software problem. They have a sequencing problem that software has never been asked to solve.
The pattern is consistent. Capacity is finite and competing demands arrive faster than it frees up. Time windows are hard, and missing one costs more than the work itself. The inputs change after the plan is made — an order moves, a line goes down, a shipment lands early, inventory turns out not to be what the system said it was. So the real schedule lives in a spreadsheet, and beside it in the head of the one person who knows how to sequence the work.
That works until it doesn't. Off-the-shelf scheduling tools assume a standard operation, and the operations that need scheduling most are rarely standard. The result is a choice between bending the business to fit the tool or running the business on judgment that cannot be scaled, audited, or handed over.
We build the third option. Related reading: why logistics and supply chain platforms break at scale.
Capabilities
What We Build
Scheduling work is rarely one system. The decision — what runs, in what order, using which resources, landing where — already belongs to someone in your operation, and usually to someone who is good at it. What they do not have is a system that makes that decision visible: every constraint, every conflict, and every commitment in one place, current enough to act on. We build that, along with the data and integrations it takes to keep it true, and we start with the part that is costing you the most.
Production and Manufacturing Scheduling
Sequencing work across lines, machines, materials, and crews — including the changeovers, constraints, and dependencies that generic planning tools flatten into guesswork.
Crew, Equipment, and Asset Scheduling
When jobs need the right people and the right equipment in the right place, the scheduling problem spans locations. We build systems where crews, assets, and jobs are scheduled in one place across branches, with conflicts surfaced instead of discovered.
Inventory That Changes Over Time
Some inventory is not a static count. Its composition, condition, or eligibility shifts while you hold it, which means the right answer to "where does this go" changes too. We build systems that track that state and route against it.
Resource and Event Scheduling
Coordinating people, equipment, facilities, and time windows across a calendar that multiple teams depend on and no one fully controls.
Optimization and AI Where It Earns Its Place
Some scheduling problems need a solver or a model. Many need better data and a clear set of rules. We tell you which one you have before you pay for the other.
Integration With What You Already Run
Your ERP, WMS, TMS, and the three spreadsheets that are actually load-bearing. Scheduling systems are only as good as what they can see, so we connect them to what exists rather than asking you to replace it first.
This is custom software development work, and where a model or a solver turns out to be the right answer it is AI strategy and implementation work. See all services.
Work in flight
Different Industries. One Problem Shape.
Our scheduling engagements sit in industries that have almost nothing in common — not their customers, not their regulations, not their vocabulary. They arrived at us with the same problem wearing different costumes.
A regional hardwood manufacturer
Production line and kiln scheduling, previously done by hand. We are building the constraint model that describes how the plant actually has to run — every rule the schedule has to respect — so the work can be sequenced against the real constraints instead of a spreadsheet’s best guess.

- Proof of concept
A regional medical inventory operation
Event, trip, and compliance scheduling under state-by-state regulatory constraints, alongside an inventory whose composition changes while it is held and has to reach the right place at the right time.
- Status
- Shipped, running in production
A heavy equipment contractor
Equipment and crew scheduling, replacing legacy tools. The system surfaces conflicts so the people who own the schedule can see them and resolve them.
- Status
- Delivered, not yet cut over to production
This is why we treat scheduling as a capability rather than a logistics specialty. The constraints differ. The regulations differ. The shape of the problem — finite capacity, competing demands, hard timing, inputs that move after the plan is set — does not. If your operation has that shape, our experience transfers to it, whatever industry you are in.
How we work
Start Small, Prove It, Then Scale
Scheduling work often starts as a proof of concept, and that is usually the right entry point. A scheduling system that no one trusts does not get used, and trust is earned on a narrow problem before it is extended to the whole operation.
Every engagement runs our process: Discover, Plan, Build, Test, Deploy, Iterate.
- Discover — We learn how the work is actually sequenced today, including the parts that live in someone's head rather than in a system.
- Plan — We define the narrowest problem worth solving first and what proof would look like.
- Build — We build against your real constraints and your real data, not a sanitized model of them.
- Test — We run it against what actually happened, so you can see where it would have helped before it touches the floor.
- Deploy — We put it in front of the people doing the work and fix what they tell us.
- Iterate — We widen the scope you have now proven, or we stop. You decide at each step.
Bring Us Your Hardest Scheduling Problem
If your operation runs on a spreadsheet, a whiteboard, and one person's judgment, that is not a failure — it is a signal you have outgrown the tools you started with. Let's look at it together and find the narrowest version worth solving first.

What Our Clients Say
Don't just take our word for it, take theirs!
“They have excellent developers; they can articulate and design around a business problem. Many developers just develop without seeing the business solution, so it helps a lot to have a team like Clear Function.”
“I am confident Clear Function is one of the best in the business.”
“[Clear Function's] ability to build relationships with both their clients and their developers over the years is impressive. The quality never suffers.”
“Response was always immediate, no question we had was too big, too small, or made to feel "dumb" … They work in a very collaborative fashion … all hands on deck.”
“You guys CRUSHED IT!! … [We] look forward to our continued work together going forward!”
“Best [PCI DSS] requirement six walkthrough I’ve ever had. I wish they all could be this way.”
